Dental Bridges

When you lose one of your natural teeth, your chewing and speech may be immediately affected. Over time, further dental problems can arise as teeth become misaligned and the forces in your bite are distributed improperly. Dental bridges are often used to fill in the gap where teeth are missing and restore function and aesthetic appeal to the mouth. Dr. Marxen places dental bridges at his practice serving the Seattle area. Typical dental bridges consist of a pontic (a filler tooth) that is attached to two surrounding crowns (abutments). On your first visit to our office, the teeth on either side of the gap will be recontoured and prepared to accept the abutments. Next, we will cast impressions of your teeth so that the bridge will fit comfortably. A temporary bridge will be placed in your mouth until your fixed bridge has been crafted by our dental laboratory. Once complete, the bridge structure is adjusted for the best fit in your mouth and securely bonded into the adjacent teeth. The dental bridges we place at our Seattle-area practice are made from materials that are strong and natural looking. If you would like more information about dental bridges, contact our dentists, Dr. Marxen and Dr. Yang, today.

Dental Crowns

When a tooth is cracked, decayed, or damaged, a crown may be fitted onto it to restore its strength and beautify the smile. Dr. Marxen and Dr. Yang can place durable dental crowns at our office in Woodinville. A crown is a protective porcelain shell that fits over the original tooth. On your first visit to our office, Dr. Marxen or Dr. Yang will examine the tooth to be crowned. They may take x-rays to ensure the tooth pulp will not become infected. After anesthetizing the area, our dentists will reshape the tooth so that the crown will fit perfectly in your mouth without feeling uncomfortably larger than the surrounding teeth. If much of the tooth is missing due to damage, Dr. Marxen can use filling material to create a sturdy foundation to hold the crown. An impression of your tooth will be taken to ensure that the dental laboratory crafts a crown that is the perfect size and shape for your mouth. When our office receives the crown, we will check to make sure that it is a good fit and make adjustments to the crown as necessary. Finally, the crown will be cemented in place. Your new crown is durable and will provide you with years of wear. Today’s bonded porcelain crowns eliminate the gray area at the gum line common with older metal-based dental crowns. Visit our office in Woodinville today to experience the aesthetic and functional benefits of crowned teeth.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a technique used to improve the appearance of teeth which are chipped, cracked, or discolored. Bonding may also be used to make gaps between teeth less noticeable. The term composite bonding refers to any composite material, either a plastic or resin, which is bonded to an existing tooth. Our doctors encourage patients who are interested in this technique to contact our practice.

Composite Color-Matched Fillings

Composite color-matched fillings are stronger and more natural looking than their more traditional metal counterparts. If you have older mercury-silver fillings, you can replace them with discreet, tooth-colored fillings. These composite fillings strengthen teeth and help you avoid future root canal therapy, tooth damage, and emergency treatments associated with older fillings.

Dental Implants

We can restore missing teeth and prevent further bone loss with dental implants. The replacement tooth is implanted into the jawbone and closely mimics the look and functionality of a natural tooth, restoring oral health. Because implants require surgery, it is important to contact Seattle-area doctors Thomas O. Marxen and Erica Y. Yang for a consultation before making a decision regarding treatment. Periodontal Dentistry

This branch of dentistry deals with the treatment of periodontal disease, also known as gum disease. Left untreated, periodontal disease can do serious damage to gum tissue, teeth, and underlying bone. Periodontal treatment seeks to remove harmful plaque and tartar that have built up over time and to improve the health of gum tissue in the mouth.

Root Canal Therapy

We are able to complete root canal therapy in a single office visit. Modern technology has made this procedure more reliable, efficient, and relatively pain-free than ever. During root canal therapy, one of our dentists will clean, disinfect, and fill the interior of the tooth, after which the tooth will be sealed with a dental crown. As a result, serious tooth pain is dramatically reduced or eliminated, and the tooth is protected from further damage and decay.

Additional Oral Surgery

Our practice provides other types of oral surgery to our Seattle and Woodinville patients, including:

  • Wisdom teeth removal
  • Extractions for immediate denture placement

Exciting New Technology

Recent advancements in technology have made dental treatment more precise and comfortable for patients. Dr. Marxen and Dr. Yang incorporate dental technology into their practice with the goal of providing patients with safer and more efficient dental care.

Diode Laser for Laser Dentistry Procedures

One of the major recent advancements in dental care is laser dentistry. Our Woodinville practice is proud to offer dental services using the Aurora Diode laser, which is safe for soft-tissue procedures. The laser uses low levels of energy to sterilize gum pockets and kill bacteria that may have been resistant to previous antibiotic therapy. The energy pulses are so short, patients generally do not feel any pain at all. Minimal, if any, anesthesia is required for procedures using the diode laser. Because the laser’s beam kills bacteria and the doctor never makes contact with the operational cut, the possibility of infection with laser dentistry is extremely low. Straighten or change the shape of your gum line for a more attractive smile through gum sculpture therapy with laser treatment. Fever blisters, ulcers, and gum disease may also be safely and effectively treated with laser dentistry. If you live in Woodinville or surrounding areas, you can relieve whatever oral discomfort you are experiencing by visiting Dr. Marxen or Dr. Yang for treatment with our gentle laser. Healing time is quick due to the precision of our laser treatments. Experience the future of dentistry – contact the practice of Dr. Marxen and Dr. Yang today to learn more about how you might benefit from laser dentistry.

Argon Laser

Through independent research, Dr. Marxen found that the argon laser is 50 percent more effective than conventional "curing" lamps for hardening cosmetic materials in the mouth. We use the argon laser at our office to increase the efficiency of our treatments and the comfort of our patients.

Intraoral Magnification

Our dentists use customized surgical telescopes with a magnifying power of 2.5x. These advanced instruments help us to see every detail of our patients’ oral structures and take our dentistry to the highest level.

Computer Imaging

See the possibilities of cosmetic dentistry with our advanced imaging system. Through digital technology, you will be able to see how cosmetic procedures will change your appearance. This is a fun and exciting way to explore different options for creating a great smile.
